Tiramisu is is one of the most popular Italian cake which is made of lady finger biscuits dipped in espresso or strong coffee, layered with a whipped mixture of egg yolks, mascarpone cheese, cream and sugar and topped with cocoa powder.
I love tiramisu very much as it is one of my all-time favourite desserts. Nyum-nyum-nyum-nyummy ! It is very easy to make and there is no need to bake (provided that you use ready baked lady finger biscuits). I used to make tiramisu quite a lot back when I was a student. I remember the last tiramisu I made was back when I was in Manchester during my final semester of my third year in university. Fewh! That is quite a long time ago.
Anyway, it is not that I don't want to make any tiramisu in Malaysia. I found that it is very hard to get mascarpone cheese here in Malaysia, if any, it is very expensive. Dairy cream is also scarce and expensive too. I felt that it was convenient to just go and buy a piece of tiramisu from Secret Recipe or Starbuck everytime I fancy some. It was convenient for my waist too! Hehehe!
That was then, now I've decided to make one for my family for 'buka puasa' (breaking our fasting of the day). So last week during a stay in KL, I went to a wholesale bakery supplies store, Bake With Yen, (which I found out that I can actually order my ingredients from them in advance especially cream cheese, mascarpone cheese, sour cream and dairy cream) and bought all that i needed. Yeay! They have everything!
Yesterday, I made not one but two large rectangular dishes of Tiramisu. Hmmm... it was really good and now I know it is much much more satisfying eating a piece that you make on your own than eating a piece that you bought from a cafe. Anyway, we did not eat it all at one go. We still have one large dish of tiramisu in the fridge, which I plan to serve again for today 'buka puasa'.
